Two young ladyboys, one of them a 16-year-old student, were arrested on early Sunday morning at the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya for "stealing cash from the pockets of an Iranian tourist."
Police were on a routine patrol in the area when they were flagged down by the Iranian tourist, Mr Javad Amini, 40, and his friend, who had caught the two ladyboys in the act and already detained them.
The two suspects, 21 and 16-years-old, were then taken to the Pattaya Police Station where Mr. Amini explained he had been "hanging out with his friends at a pavilion" at the pier, when the two ladyboys "approached [them] from both sides" to "offer them them sexual services."
They reportedly "attempted to distract him while one of them put his hand into his trouser pocket [and] rummaged through the pocket," stealing 3,670 Baht in cash. However, the two thieves were caught in the act and detained by the two Iranian tourists before they could escape.
At the police station, the suspects initially denied that they had tried to steal Mr Amini’s money, with the 16-year-old ladyboy, reportedly a student at a school in Pattaya identified only as "Miss Jane," claiming that the Iranian man had been "pickpocketed by some woman at the scene" and he/she had only "helped the victim." But after Mr Amini and his friend had positively identified the two suspects, police did not believe their version and charged the "katoeys" with theft
