Brother of Election Candidate Gunned Down in Broad Daylight

The 53-year-old brother of an election candidate for the Bhum Jai Thai Party was gunned down in broad daylight in Bangkok on Wednesday. Police believed the attack was "politically motivated," however, are not sure if the attack was linked to his own or his sister's political activities.
Subhan Jirapanvanich, chairman of the Lopburi provincial administration organisation, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead. The victim's wife and his secretary were also wounded.
The attack near Khao San Road occured at about 2.30 pm, police said. While the victim, his wife and his secretary "stopped to buy ice-cream in front of a jewellery shop, a man about 170cm tall, wearing a blue shirt with long sleeves and blue jeans, walked up to them and fired four shots with a handgun" at the victim, and "many other shots at the two women." The gunman reportedly shot "at a close range before fleeing on a waiting motorcycle driven by an accomplice."
The victim's sister is competing for a parliamentary seat in Lopburi under the banner of the Bhum Jai Thai Party, a junior member of the ruling government coalition
